(Tioga Center, NY) For the second time in the 2013 racing season, foul weather has forced the cancellation of the racing program at the ASA Member Shangri-La II Motorspeedway. “We have really had a lot of severe storms park themselves right over the speedway the past few days” said track event coordinator, Amy Culver. “Sitting up as high as we do, right on top of the mountain, the rain intensity and wind is just incredible. We had ponds and mini lakes in our infield and our parking areas. We really had no choice but to cancel this week”.The racing action has heated up on the track, just as much as the temperatures of summer. The Pudgies Pizza Street Stocks continue to have fast cars, close competition and a revolving door on who will be leading the points. Defending track champion, Jeff Goodwin reclaimed the top spot from Chris Zacharias on June 15th , but by only eight points. Both drivers have two wins apiece. Early season points leader, Charlie Sharpsteen remains strong in the third position, twenty eight points out of the lead. Jake Snell and Jason Duke, Sr. complete the top five in points respectively, the highest they have either been in points at Shangri-La II.
RACING CANCELLED FOR TONIGHT

Gene Purvis continued his winning ways in the Four Cylinder Stocks at the ASA Member track, Shangri-La II Motorspeedway on Saturday night. Purvis collected win number five in the fifth week of competition. Jeff Goodwin out-dueled Charlie Sharpsteen on the final restart to repeat as winner in the Pudgies Pizza Street Stocks. Tyler Rypkema went wheel to wheel with the winningest driver at the track to claim back to back wins in the Sportsman division.
The green flag dropped for the Four Cylinder Stock feature and immediately Gene Purvis created a three wide challenge for the lead as he charged up from his fourth place starting spot. Joe Lane and Jeremiah Clonch held off Purvis as they continued two wide through the second turn. Clonch would claim the lead heading down the backstretch. Clonch crossed the line leading the first two laps, but would be overtaken by Purvis entering turn two on the third lap. Purvis checked out on the field leaving a three way battle behind him as Clonch, Lane and Nick Morich fought for second. At the checkered flag, Purvis claimed his fifth consecutive win of 2013. Lane finished second; Clonch was third and the driver who ended the Purvis Perfect streak by winning the heat race, Nick Morich, finished fourth.
