(Tioga Center, NY) The management of Shangri-La II Motorspeedway in Tioga Center, NY has just announced that they are opening up their rules for the remaining three regular races on the 2013 schedule. The Sportsman and Street Stocks will now be able to follow the Shangri-La II or Race of Champions rule packages for the August 31, September 7 and September 14th events. “We wanted to open up the rules so race teams could come and start getting ready for the Fall Brawl” said track owner, George Swansbrough. Any cars that are new to the speedway or have not supported the facility in 2013 will race for and be paid for the spots they finish in with no points awarded. The points will be structured so those who have supported the speedway and are locked in points battles will not be affected by the rules change. The technical inspection team will be closely scrutinizing the cars. They will be enforcing a Shangri-La II rule that if you are caught cheating; you will forfeit any winnings for that event.

(Tioga Center, NY) Racing resumed where it left off the previous week at the ASA Member Track, Shangri-La II Motorspeedway on Saturday night. The starter in the main track generator failed, forcing the postponement of the Sportsman and Pudgies Pizza Street Stock features to this past Saturday. Matt Kurzejewski claimed his first win of the season in the held over Sportsman feature. Defending street stock champion, Jeff Goodwin was dialed in and dominated the held over Pudgies Pizza Street Stock event. Gene Purvis wrestled the lead away from Jeremiah Clonch in the closing laps to take the win in the Four Cylinder Stocks. Tyler Rypkema went to victory lane for the fourth time this season in the Sportsman division, and Chris Zacharias led flag to flag in the Pudgies Pizza Street Stocks for his fourth win of the season.
The evening started with the Sportsman featuring resuming racing on lap ten. The race had been red flagged for a crash involving T.J. Zacharias and Tyler Rypkema on the front stretch. Rypkema was treated at a local hospital for a fractured wrist. At the green flag, Matt Kurzejewski and Paul Johnson challenged for the lead in turn one with Kurzejewski claiming the top spot entering turn three. Johnson would keep Kurzejewski within two car lengths until caution flew on lap fifteen when Tommy Rought spun in turn two. Kurzejewski reclaimed the lead on the restart and held off Johnson for his first win of the season, and fourth overall at the track. Johnson was second. Tom Shiner and Mikayla Rypkema races hard and finished third and fourth respectively, Tommy Rought finished fifth.

(Tioga Center, NY) The top two drivers in Sportsman points at Shangri-La II Motorspeedway crashed hard on Saturday night as they battled for the lead just shy of halfway in the twenty five lap feature. Following the clean-up from the accident, the generator which controls the majority of the on-track lighting would not start forcing postponement of the remainder of the evening’s activities. The remainder of the Sportsman feature and the Pudgies Pizza Street Stock feature will be run at the beginning of the night on Saturday August 24th. The ASA member track did have one completed feature however as Gene Purvis returned to victory lane in the Four Cylinder Stock feature.
The program got underway with Brandon Ameigh having engine failure in his Four Cylinder Stock on the opening lap of the heat race. A rod went through the block in the car which has won the three previous features scattering parts, pieces and fluids throughout the turn three area. Nick Morich went on to win the heat, his first heat race win in his rookie season in the Four Cylinder Stocks. Morich carried the momentum of the heat race win to the feature as he led the first lap. Gene Purvis challenged the leader in turn two. Purvis completed the pass in turn three and went on to claim his seventh feature win of the season. Morich finished second and Wayne, Oklahoma driver Alan Blackwell finished third.
T.J. Zacharias entered the night leading the Sportsman points by eight over Tyler Rypkema. Rypkema won the heat race, and closed to within six points when the green flag flew for the feature. Paul Johnson and Mikayla Rypkema led the field to the green flag. Zacharias started third, and T.Rypkema started fifth. The inside line moved quickly through turn one, and Zacharias passed Johnson entering turn three for the lead.
