Mother Nature Only Winner as June 9 Event Cancels

June 9 - Mother Nature was the only winner on Saturday night at the speedway. Persistent and spotty showers, thunderstorms and outright torrential downpours in the surrounding communities coupled with a forecast for more of the same forced the hand of track management to cancel the event at the ASA Member track. "We have a fair amount of competitors towing long distances to reach our facility" states track manager, Amy Stilson. "We know the economy is tough and with the conditions like we had on Saturday and the forecast for the remainder of the evening, we can help save the teams and fans the expense on fuel by making the difficult decision to cancel early this time. This program is lost to the elements, and will not be made up". This rainout comes after four weeks of competition are in the books for the Sportsman, Street Stocks and Pudgie's Pizza Four Cylinder Stocks.

In Sportsman competition, John Wilber sits atop the points standings with 221 points, just two points ahead of Zach Curren. Jimmy Zacharias is third in the points twenty six behind the leader, but is undefeated collecting three of the first four checkered flags. Jody Buckley and Tony Hanbury are tied for fourth with 181 points. Hanbury has the other feature win this season.

The Street Stock division is extremely competitive so far, with the top six drivers separated by only twenty nine points. Jeff Goodwin took over the point lead last week by collecting his second feature win of the season. Gil Sharpsteen remains in second place seventeen points back from Goodwin. Charlie Sharpsteen is in third – five points out of second and twenty two out of the lead. R.J.Zacharias returns to weekly competition in 2012 and finds himself fourth in the points after the first four weeks. R.J. is two points out of third and twenty four behind the leader. Two time and defending champion, Lee Sharpsteen sits fifth in points although he has collected the other two feature wins this season. Lee is one point out of fourth and twenty five points out of the lead. Chris Zacharias has had a fast car this season collecting two heat race wins. He is in sixth place after four events, four points away from fifth and twenty nine points out of first place.

The brand new Pudgie's GoodTime Pizza, Pasta and Subs Four Cylinder Stocks is growing slowly each week. The Ameigh family has dominated victory lane, however, with Brandon and Jeff each collecting two wins each. Brandon Ameigh is the points leader by six points over Frank Morich. Jeff Ameigh is third in the points, but has only competed in three events after getting a late start on the season. Dayton Cote, Anthony Lane and Gene Purvis round pot the top six in the points.

Following the first two weeks of Late Model competition, Jim Lamoreaux holds a three point lead over defending Late Model Champion, Joe Brown. Scott Nurmi is four points out of the lead in third; Jerry Dineen is fourth in points – ten out of the lead. Lorin Arthofer and Billy Coyle are tied for fifth in points, twenty three out of the top spot. 2009 Late Model Champion, Jim Lamoreaux and 2010 Late Model Champion, Travis Fisher have each collected a win this season. Erick Rudolph was the winner of the first Modified feature this season and Kyle Ebersole was the winner of the first RoC Modified race. There are four more modified races on the schedule for 2012 with two of those races being Race of Champions events.
