Strong Early Registration Points to Growth Year at Shangri-La II; Final Open House Day Set for Saturday April 10th with Open Practice on April 17th
Racing veterans know their sport has its own version of the proverb, "Don't count your chickens before they hatch". The racers' translation is, "Don't count the cars until they're on the track."
Shangri-La II Motor Speedway, hosts its second open house day this Saturday, April 10, but the cars won't hit the track for pre-season practice until Saturday, April 17, and the real racing doesn't get under way for another two weeks when the Concrete Duals kick off the second season at the Concrete Castle. Nevertheless, the volume of cars registered over the winter months and at the first open house last week point to a season of growth at the ASA Member Track in 2010.
The ASA Late Models lead the early sign-ups, with Tim Barone, Brandon Kidd, and Brendt Matzel from northern New York and Southern Tier drivers Billy Coyle, Dave Schneider and Joe Schneider joining a lineup that already includes the top seven drivers in points from 2009. There's even a story on the street that one of the late model stars of the original Shangri-La Speedway may be planning a return after racing outside the area for many years.
