Allison Legacy Series Joins Shangri-La II's Great American Classic, July 3rd

allison_legacyOfficials of Shangri-La II Motor Speedway have announced the booking of the Allison Legacy Series North as part of the Saturday program at the Great American Classic weekend, July 3-4. The 3/4 scale stock cars will join the tour-type Modifieds and the track's Street Stock division in action that day.

The Great American Classic continues on Sunday, July 4, with ASA Late Models, Sportsman Modifieds, RoC-style Super Stocks, and INEX Legends in action. Both days will see gates open at 1:00 p.m., practice at 3:00 p.m., and racing at 5:00 p.m.

The Allison Legacy cars have been produced since 1995 by Allison Brothers Racing in Salisbury, N.C., owned by the three sons of NASCAR great Donnie Allison. Carrying modern stock-appearing bodies, the Legacy cars use a sealed, 120 horsepower Mazda engine and weigh 1425 pounds, making them similar to the INEX Legends in their power-to-weight ratio.

So far in the 2010 the Allison Legacy Series North has raced at Waterford, Conn., Monadnock, N.H., and Seekonk, Mass. While most of the drivers are from New England, the point leader, Paul Tuthill, makes his home in Washingtonville, N.Y., near Middletown.

"The INEX Legends have become a fan favorite here at Shangri-La II, with close racing in the draft and last-lap lead changes. While they look more contemporary, the Allison Legacy cars share the same philosophy and we look forward to a good show from them as we celebrate our first birthday on our nation's birthday," said track manager Amy Stilson.

Fans planning to stay for both days of the Great American Classic are reminded that camping is free on the grounds of Shangri-La II Motor Speedway outside the ticket gates. For more information, visit shangrila-2.com or call 607-330-2622.

Stars of NASCAR Night at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway, Saturday, August 7th to Feature Rusty Wallace, Kenny Wallace, Matt Kenseth, Michael Waltrip

Shangri-La II Motor Speedway is proud to announce an all-star lineup of talent for its first Stars of NASCAR Night on Saturday, August 7, the night before the Sprint Cup race at nearby Watkins Glen. Two NASCAR Cup Series champions and two of NASCAR's most colorful personalities will make the night at the Concrete Castle one to remember.

Rusty Wallace, the 1989 Winston Cup champion and his brother Kenny Wallace, whose outspoken television personality sometimes overshadows his driving talent, will be joined by 2003 title winner Matt Kenseth and two-time Daytona 500 victor Michael Waltrip, who has become a TV favorite as well. Rusty will man the microphone while the other three compete in a match race series using the top cars in Shangri-La's popular ASALate Model division.

Fans purchasing VIP tickets will have a chance for autographs and photos in a reserved tent at the track, with details to be announced in the near future. The night's schedule will be arranged to give fans attending the Saturday afternoon Nationwide Series event at Watkins Glen time to make the 45 to 50 minute trip to Shangri-La II in time for all the festivities. Of course, a full ASA Member Track racing program for the Modifieds, ASA Late Models, Sportsman Modifieds, and Street Stocks, will be part of the evening.

"Putting this package together has been one of our highest priorities for the 2010 season, along with the installation of our lighting system," said track manager Amy Stilson. "Both projects are now well underway, and they will meet for a spectacular Stars of NASCAR Night at Shangri-La II," she added.

Event schedule, pricing, and VIP ticket package details will be announced in the near future.
